| Abstract: |
The Eastern enlargement of the EU has been a top European political priority throughout the decade of the 1990’s, and into the new century. Great hopes and fears are connected with the enlargement process, in Europe and beyond its borders. The possible consequences of enlargement have been analysed from a great number of perspectives. But there has been a conspicuous vacuum in the debate so far. Gender equality in the enlargement process has not received much attention either from policy makers or from the general public. This briefing paper reflects WIDE’s longstanding experience in analysing EU policies from a gender perspective. |
